What is the right spelling?

A few years ago, Charles SAVY the founder of the "La Naucelloise" company, somewhat torn over the controversy of the spelling of "tripoux or tripous" (as each version has its fervent advocates), decided to call upon the French academy.
The academy replied that indeed the grammatical rule to be applied was that as with other such French words: bijou, caillou, chou, genou, hibou, joujou, pou which are exceptions to the rule.
The French Academy therefore recommended the following spelling:
"tripous with an S".
